Dr. Richard Pan Statement on Kevin Kiley Entering CA-06 Race
Sacramento, CA — On the heels of multiple polls in California’s 6th Congressional race showing Dr. Richard Pan with a commanding lead amongst all candidates, Donald Trump sycophant and “MAGA Champion” Congressman Kevin Kiley (CA-03) announced that he will run in California’s 6th Congressional District, attempting to sell the same extreme record to a district that deserves better. His record in Congress and the State Legislature reflects a brand of partisan extremism that is out of step with the families who live here – from backing corporate tax schemes, supporting massive healthcare cuts, peddling conspiracy theories, and targeting organizations that protest ICE.
Following Kevin Kiley’s announcement, Dr. Richard Pan said the race presents voters with a clear choice between results-focused leadership and partisan extremism.
“Kevin Kiley can try to rebrand himself, but voters know his extreme record,” said Dr. Richard Pan. “He has stood with Donald Trump 98% of the time and was named a ‘MAGA Champion.’ The people of this district deserve better than political opportunism disguised as moderation. This race is about who will actually fight for healthcare, public health, and working families. I’ve done that my entire career. Kevin Kiley has not.”
Kiley voted for the GOP’s Big, Ugly Bill, ripping away health care from nearly 44,000 people and cutting food assistance for over 41,000 households in the old CA-06. He helped advance proposals to raise the retirement age and shift health care costs onto seniors. He opposed enshrining abortion rights in California’s Constitution and supported extreme anti-abortion legislation.
In contrast, Dr. Pan previously represented more than 60% of CA-06 in the State Legislature and lives in the district with his family. As a pediatrician and former State Senator, he helped cut the uninsured rate by almost two-thirds, capped insulin costs, defended reproductive freedom, and stood up to extremist attacks on science and public health.
Dr. Pan was a proven problem solver in the Legislature – fiercely advocating for vaccinations despite threats and violence from MAGA extremists and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and helping local restaurants deliver more than 750,000 meals to families during the pandemic.
A recent survey of likely Democratic primary voters shows Dr. Pan leading the field, reflecting growing support for leadership focused on lowering costs and protecting families.
