Dr. Richard Pan Kicks Off Congressional Campaign for CA-06 with Momentum, Endorsements, and Media Blitz

Sacramento, CA — Last week, pediatrician, educator, small business owner, and former State Senator Dr. Richard Pan launched his campaign for California’s 3rd Congressional District to take down MAGA incumbent Kevin Kiley.

Dr. Pan entered the race with a strong showing – earning the early backing of California leaders Congresswoman Judy Chu and Congressman Dave Min and kicking off with a district-wide media blitz. Pan is highlighting his commitment to take on extremists in Washington threatening Californians’ health care, and solve the problems everyday families face.

READ: What They Are Saying:

  • Sacramento Bee: In Congress, Pan hopes to push back on the Trump administration’s cuts to Medicaid and against allowing Affordable Care Act subsidies to expire…

As someone who has twice gone head-to-head with RFK Jr, [Pan] is…”uniquely positioned to be able to call him out when he is endangering people.” “I’m the right person to represent the people in the district…to be sure that their health care is protected, to be sure that we don’t have preventable outbreaks of disease and that we keep people safe in our communities.”

  • CalMatters: Pan and Democrats nationwide hope to hold Republicans like Kiley accountable for supporting President Donald Trump’s megabill, which over the next 10 years will cause an estimated 10 million Americans to lose health coverage…

“We see a federal government that seems to be intentionally attacking health care, whether it’s taking away people’s health insurance, undermining public health to allow disease to spread, cutting research for things like cancer treatments,” Pan told CalMatters in an interview.

“As a pediatrician, I’ve spent my life really trying to keep kids and their families healthy,” he added. “I’m running for Congress to be sure that we can protect people’s health care.”

  • Politico California Playbook: Richard Pan, a physician who pushed some of the nation’s most sweeping vaccine legislation as a state senator during the pandemic, is running for the Sacramento-area House seat currently held by his former statehouse colleague Kevin Kiley.

[...] “Health care is going to be a very important issue of the campaign,” Pan said in an interview on Monday, in which he recalled tangling with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. when the future Health and Human Services secretary traveled to Sacramento to oppose Pan’s vaccination policy efforts. “We need representation from people who will hold the administration accountable when they try to take away people's health care.”

WATCH: Pan on his Vision for CA-03:

  • KCRA: Pan, a Democrat and physician, is known for writing some of California's toughest vaccine mandates. In his first TV interview to announce the run with KCRA 3, Pan said the latest health care-related action by the Trump administration and Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., from the loosening of vaccine recommendations to cutting health care spending, ultimately pushed him to jump into the race.

"Since I've left the Legislature and with this current administration, what I see is that a lot of that work that we've done together to help people is being rolled back," Pan said.

[...] When asked if Rep. Kiley is not doing enough to represent the 3rd Congressional District, Pan said, "Kevin Kiley is basically a reliable vote for the president's agenda."

  • Fox 40Pan’s spent much of his time in the legislature focused on medical issues. Among his most notable achievements was the passage of Senate Bill 277 (2015), which eliminated personal belief exemptions for existing school-required vaccines.

[...] “I’m running for Congress because Congress is not doing their job,” Pan said. “They’ve already taken away health care from millions of Californians… This is an illness in Washington that we need to cure.”

  • KQED: Former Democratic State Senator Richard Pan is launching a campaign for Congress against Sacramento area Republican Kevin Kiley. During his time in the legislature, Pan became known for writing a 2015 law that limited exemptions for childhood vaccines.

Pan says that experience prepared him to oppose the current vaccine policies of Health and Human Services Secretary, Robert F Kennedy Jr. “I've actually fought those battles and won with RFK Jr., and so I know how to take him on.”
