Dr. Richard Pan Announces Run for Congress in CA-06
Public Health Advocate Represented Over 70% Of The New 6th Congressional District In The State Senate
Sacramento, CA — Today, pediatrician, small business owner, UC Davis professor, and former State Senator, Dr. Richard Pan announced that he will continue his campaign for Congress after the passage of Proposition 50, in California’s new 6th Congressional District. Pan was elected to represent over 70% of CA-06 in the State Legislature and lives in the district with his family.
“From expanding health care coverage to over 65,000 kids in the Sacramento region, to years serving our community in the State Legislature where I cut the uninsured rate in California by almost two thirds, I have always put the health and safety of our children and families first,” said Dr. Richard Pan. “As the Trump Administration takes food off the table for one out of eight Americans, and makes health care unaffordable for tens of thousands of people in this district, I’m running for Congress to stop the extremist policies hurting Californians and to solve the problems our everyday families face.”

Dr. Pan, who was a proven problem solver in the state legislature – fiercely advocating for vaccinations and public health despite vitriol and violence from MAGA extremists and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and supporting local restaurants who delivered 750,000 meals to families – announced his campaign for Congress three weeks ago with endorsements from California Congressmembers Dave Min and Judy Chu, Healthcare for Action, and local elected officials who cited his record of expanding affordable health care coverage to millions of Californians.
Pan showed strong fundraising momentum, raising over $100,000 in the first 24 hours of his campaign and shared his message in media interviews across Sacramento.
News Coverage:
POLITICO: “Health care is going to be a very important issue of the campaign,” Pan said in an interview on Monday, in which he recalled tangling with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. when the future Health and Human Services secretary traveled to Sacramento to oppose Pan’s vaccination policy efforts. “We need representation from people who will hold the administration accountable when they try to take away people’s health care.”
KCRA3: Pan, a Democrat and physician, is known for writing some of California's toughest vaccine mandates. In his first TV interview to announce the run with KCRA 3, Pan said the latest health care-related action by the Trump administration and Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., from the loosening of vaccine recommendations to cutting health care spending, ultimately pushed him to jump into the race.
FOX40 NEWS: Pan’s spent much of his time in the legislature focused on medical issues. Among his most notable achievements was the passage of Senate Bill 277 (2015), which eliminated personal belief exemptions for existing school-required vaccines.
THE SACRAMENTO BEE: In Congress, Pan hopes to push back on the Trump administration’s cuts to Medicaid and against allowing Affordable Care Act subsidies to expire, a move that could spike insurance premiums for some and has been a central sticking point in the government shutdown.
