Dr. Richard Pan Announces Campaign for Congress in CA-03

Pediatrician, Educator, And Time Magazine Public Health “Hero” Who Served Over 70% Of The Congressional District In the State Legislature Announces Run To Take On Donald Trump And Old Foe Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Sacramento, CA — Dr. Richard Pan, Pediatrician, Educator, Small Business Owner, and Former State Senator announced his run today for California’s 3rd Congressional District against MAGA Incumbent Kevin Kiley. Dr. Pan, who flipped his state legislative seat from Red to Blue in 2010, and went on to pass some of the Country’s leading child and school safety laws, was famously threatened by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and MAGA extremists, whom Dr. Pan defeated twice.

Now, as the Trump Administration rips away health care from over 31,000 CA-03 residents, and millions of California families see their health care costs skyrocket, Dr. Pan is running for Congress to take on  extremists in Washington and solve the problems everyday California families face – lowering costs, expanding health care, and ensuring every family has the chance to succeed.

Dr. Pan, who teaches public health at UC Davis, and Co-Founded Healthy Kids Healthy Future, which expanded health coverage to over 65,000 children in the Sacramento region, was quickly endorsed by California Congressmembers Judy Chu (CA-28) and Dave Min (CA-47):

“Dr. Richard Pan has always led with compassion, integrity, and a deep commitment to public health and fairness,” said Rep. Judy Chu. “In Congress, I know he’ll fight tirelessly to protect families’ health care, stand up to extremism, and deliver real solutions that make life more affordable and secure for everyone.”

“I had the honor of serving alongside Dr. Richard Pan in the California State Senate, where I saw firsthand his integrity, compassion, and determination to get results for working families,” said Rep. Dave Min. “In Congress, I know he’ll bring that same steady leadership to expand health care, lower costs, and protect our communities.”

News Coverage:

  • TIME: The work that’s done at the lab bench is not the only thing that makes vaccines possible; the work that’s done by policymakers matters a lot too. That is especially true in the case of California State Senator Richard Pan…“I ran to be sure we keep our communities safe and healthy,” he [said]... That is, at once, both a very simple and very ambitious goal.

  • Sacramento Bee: An industrious medical student, the son of immigrants…Richard Pan…couldn’t know [that he’d be put] on the path to one day entering the California Senate and authoring the nation’s toughest childhood vaccine mandates. Or that he would be forced to fight for them in the face of violent threats.

If Pan has indeed earned the title of vaccine hero now…he got there because of what he learned in community health centers about standing up for people who couldn’t speak for themselves.

  • The Guardian: To Dr Richard Pan…who has authored one of the toughest pro-vaccination laws in the country, the misguided, anti-science messaging was nothing new. Over the last decade, Pan has …become an expert in the anti-vaccine movement, having been a target of protests, death threats and an assault himself.

“The greatest fear has always been that people will die who didn’t need to die.” – Dr. Pan
